The Musical Lebar Family
The "original" Lebar family was comprised of Theodor and Maria Lebar and their 12 children, almost all of whom are musical (as are the majority of their children). In the early days, upon their arrival to Canada, Mr. Theodor Lebar senior, Ted Lebar, and several of his brothers performed together in a small band playing traditional instruments of Slovenia. Several members went on to become music teachers and/or performers.
Early Days to the Present
Ted Lebar began teaching guitar in 1963, and not too long after, his brother Matt joined him teaching accordion, and they opened up the music school in Bloor West Village. Later, their brother Syl joined them teaching piano at the new location in the Kingsway. Ted's daughter Nadia started teaching piano in 1978, and son Andre in 2003. Violin and viola teachers joined us at the Kingsway, before its relocation in 2004.
The Future Sounds Good
Times are definitely changing quickly. Gaming and social media are eating up peoples' free time like never before, and the 'instant gratification' that they provide is changing the way we want to learn. Unfortunately, the government always looks to music first when making cuts to school boards. But...we find that those who appreciate quality learning and are aware of the benefits that private music lessons provide, do find their way to us. We feel that the future of private music lessons is sound!
In Memoriam: Ted Lebar
Mr. Ted Lebar passed away in December of 2023 and he will be missed greatly. He is the founder of Lebar Music School and was passionate about teaching classical guitar, harmony, arranging, composing and ear training to countless students over a span of 60 years. He touched the lives of all who passed through his studio, and was the inventor of the 15, 17 and 19-string guitars, as well as of the world's best guitar case owned by noted classical guitarists. Many of Mr. Lebar's former students are teachers or performers themselves, and his legacy lives on.

Hi, I'm Nadia, daughter of Theodor and the owner of Lebar Music School. I am passionate about teaching piano and instilling the love of music to all who take lessons from me. My lessons are lively and creative, and can follow the RCM method, or be more casual - even just teaching you your desired pieces/musical genre.
